Subaru (Fuji Heavy Industries, Ltd., Tokyo) is set to release its new rear wheel drive sports "BRZ". Additional rumors about its top-of-the-line variation, "STI version" is circulating. We have recently heard very interesting information about it. The information is reported by automotive news site "Auto EXPRESS" on 28th, March. The media was successful in interviewing Mr. Atsushi Ataka, from FHI Global Marketing Headquarters, and he hinted that a peak power of the so-called STI version will achieve up to 250PS, and its maximum RPM will reach as high as 7500. The already released BRZ produces 200PS, and we are very much interested in how they will add 50PS more. Would it have a turbo-charged engine? Mt. Ataka did not agree that it would have turbo-charger, while there is no extra room to add an intercooler in its engine compartment. Instead, he said, extra power will be available by tuning the intake and exhaustion system, by variable valve control and such. In addition, the STI version will receive weight-savings compared to the normal grades. Mt. Ataka said "We will employ a carbon fiber roof and carbon fiber seats, curb weight is just around 1,250 kg." Seems like expectations are high for the STI variant. |
