2015 WRX STI rallycross VT15x Subaru has readied a new rallycross fighter based on the 2015 WRX STI and dubbed the VT15x. It will make its world premiere at the New York Auto Show this week. Made to compete in Red Bull Global Rallycross and X Games Rallycross, it was built by Subaru technical partner Vermont SportsCar. “We made huge strides in durability and competitiveness last season,” stated Vermont SportsCar Team Principal Lance Smith. “The VT15x is almost entirely-new technology. This car is a revolution, not just an evolution.” The wide-body VT15x, which meets GRC and FIA Rallycross homologation standards, features a 580hp 2.0-liter boxer engine paired to a 6-speed SADEV sequential gearbox and all-wheel drive, good enough for a 0-60mph (96km/h) run in just 2 seconds flat. Subaru said that it made widespread updates and revisions to the car over the previous VT14x model. "Optimizing weight balance, center-of-gravity, suspension geometry, and aerodynamics were key focuses to improve handling; while increased engine power and response led to gains in overall speed and launching capability at the start," said the Japanese carmaker. |

The brand-new, four-wheel-drive machine has been built to the FIA’s new-for-2015 NR4 technical regulations and is the newest car of its type to be specifically built for international production rallying. JRM is an official Base Team of Subaru Tecnica International (STI) – a winner of six WRC production titles and 47 world rallies – and it believes its latest NR4 challenger will boost competition in the WRC 2 Production Cup. “There’s been a dearth of new cars coming into production rallying during the last few years so we’re aiming to shake the category up by introducing a car that is totally new and fresh,” JRM’s Steve Smith explained. “This is the newest production rally car anywhere in the world and has been built to the latest NR4 regulations that have been introduced to create more of a level playing field in the production category.” JRM’s latest-specification Subaru WRX STI has been heralded as the Japanese manufacturer’s best handling production-spec rally car to date, due to its improved body and suspension stiffness. “This 2015 car features Subaru’s latest vehicle technology that has never been used in the WRC 2 Production Cup. We expect it to be competitive,” Smith added. JRM’s build programme has been co-ordinated by experienced rally engineer, Eddie Corr, while testing is being undertaken by Terry Kaby, a one-time WRC driver who has been developing manufacturer rally cars for more than 25 years. |
