| Subaru STI-Enhanced XV tS Emerges In Japan Now available for order in Japan, the STI-developed Subaru XV tS. There is a twist in the tale however, the XV tS treatment is only applied to the XV Hybrid, which isn't available in Australia meaning no plan for local sales. There are no changes under the bonnet (110kW/196Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder ‘Boxer’ engine) but elsewhere STI (Subaru’s motorsports division) has weaved its magic into the XV Hybrid tS. On the interior, STI brought more orange highlights plus its own-design sports front seats in leather/Ultrasuede, a leather-wrapped sports steering wheel, piano black/metallic highlights for the instruments, beige door trims with orange stitching and orange arm-rests. The exterior dresses up with further orange highlights plus a roof spoiler, gray edges for the grille, black door mirrors and STI-logoed fog-light bezels (top image). But underneath is where the STI tricks appear: 17-inch alloy wheels, STI-tuned front struts and coil springs, STI-tuned rear dampers and coil springs, STI-designed flexible front tower bar and an STI-designed flexible draw stiffener (front). TMR reckons the Subaru XV is already a sharper drive than most rivals so this STI-developed upgrade sounds enticing - that's not to say we wouldn't also like to see the engine from the WRX and Levorg find its way into the XV for a good old-fashioned rally rocket. |
