Subaru's next WRX STI is not a plug-in hybrid! Starting from FA type 2L turbo [Scoop]

VIZIV PERFORMANCE CONCEPT, a concept car that attracted attention at the Subaru booth at the Tokyo Motor Show 2017. It was a previous reputation that it is the next WRX STI, apparently there seems to be a more complicated background. What is the conclusion that the scoop team of the holiday magazine that proceeded the investigation to find out the truth reached? Next WRX STI is FA 20's 2L turbo. It is difficult to install a plug-in hybrid.
The next WRX STI follows the image of the current model, but it also improves the texture considerably

"The impression of appearance should not change so much from the current model ...". That is why he is a person familiar with Subaru's internal circumstances. I heard that the design has already been decided.

Since the advent of the current Impreza, Subaru has adopted a new design concept using a new platform as the next-generation car. Then, is the design of the next WRX system changed significantly? As I asked, I got an answer that would make me think this time. Even if you say WRX to the mouth, there are actually STI and S4, and the de facto brother car but there is a revue treated as a different car as a wagon.Three cars are planned and developed almost in parallel In other words, the base is the same.In other words, the basic mechanism and dimensions are shared as well as the design side, so the (basic design) will become intensive inevitably, the difference between the characters is mainly plastic parts I will express it. "

It is also a car that is leading the Subaru brand image. Therefore, it may be inevitable to become conservative in terms of design.
"It's not about changing anything - the WRX system has just become an independent car model with the relationship with the Impreza being the current model. In addition, the packages of horizontally opposed engine and symmetrical AWD will not change in future. I do not deny what the riders are being examined in S4 and Levog, but I have heard that there is no schedule until the middle of model life, and I heard that STI will push through with sports to the last until the end.Of course, with a new design theme A certain "dynamic & solid" is adopted, but I think that it is better to say that it is a normal evolution, but texture should improve considerably, so I hope that will be there "

Once in the WRX family, a second mission failed in full model change. I have had a bitter experiences I had no choice but to do a big face lift in a short time. If so, the next WRX design that is expected to evolve normally may be a desirable one for fans.

"What you can expect in that sense is the one that is renewed.S4 and Levog are aiming for a level that can not be caught by European cars and STI pursues even higher speed ing"

As mentioned above, the newly developed SGP (Subaru Global Platform) is used for next generation Subaru vehicles. It is an excellent platform that handles high-quality handling by lightness and strength and also supports the coming electric driving era. Based on this, S4 and Levog aim for further height as a touring car and STI gets more sophisticated speed.

So what happens to the engine? Information sources say that is the point of the next WRX. "There is no doubt that S4 and Levog will appear in 2019. As is clear from the mid-term plan, we will install a new-generation direct-injection downsizing turbo, probably with S4 and Levog only to 1.8L turbo lineup It will be aggregated. " Then, what about STI?
"It is the most interesting point, although it may not be in time in 2019. As you already have been rumored around here, the domestic specification will be switched to FA 20 DIT, EJ 20 will retire from active service. The new engine It is a different thing from the current type FA 20 DIT, it can be thought that it is a dedicated tuning engine for STI.The development team seems to set "high speed beyond specifications" as a goal, but from the very low revolution now Sleeping smoothly in any case up to the maximum permissible speed which can be greatly improved, yet realizing ease of handling in the town Although the special specification S208 was released the other day, the next STI said that it will exceed the S series in the state of stock "We said that the taste is supple to the last.
The next WRX STI follows the image of the current model, but it also improves the texture considerably.
If judged solely by specs, there should not be much difference between domestic specification and North American specification, but its output characteristics should be completely different, although I do not know yet which is more STI-like"

The Japanese specification is characterized by the normal evolution of the current type "lightly rushing up", it can be predicted that the North American specification will rather be "tuned" tuning.

By the way, what is the basis for anticipating that STI will not make it in time for 2019?*
"The next-generation eye site should be installed in Levog and S4, but it will not be installed in the STI of the manual mission.Subar's plan is to introduce the next-generation eye site in 2020, so that with Levog who appeared in the previous year and S4 should be equipped with this ahead of schedule, so it will be given priority over the development of STI of pure sports. The basic design and development is common to all three cars, but the development team of each car is the last boiled down I am in charge and I heard that the number of people is more for Revoog & S4 "

What is worrisome is the price, but the price of special STI special cars in particular has steadily rising, especially.*The fact that the performance of the S series will be the default for the next model is worried about a significant price increase.

"It is unlikely that there will be no choice but to upgrade the price to a certain extent because Subaru's next-generation model puts emphasis not only on running, but also on improving the texture of the interior and exterior, although suddenly S series I think that it will not rise to a level comparable to that.I do not need to worry so much. STATEMENT ON SUBARU STI As the automotive marketplace continues to move towards electrification, Subaru is focused on how our future sports and performance cars should evolve to meet the needs of the changing marketplace and the regulations and requirements for greenhouse gasses (GHG), zero emissions vehicles (ZEV), and Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ). As part of that effort, Subaru Corporation is exploring opportunities for the next generation Subaru WRX STI, including electrification. In the meantime, a next generation internal combustion engine WRX STI will not be produced based upon the new WRX platform. The Subaru WRX STI and the STI brand represent the zenith of Subaru’s performance vehicles exemplifying Subaru’s unique DNA and rally heritage. As we look to the future, we also look forward to incorporating the essence of STI into our next generation of vehicles.
